YOUR
NERVE SYSTEM
"The
nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures
of the body."
(Gray's Anatomy, 29th ed., page 4). and Hippocrates.
Your
nerve system is the communication network that regulates
and co-ordinates the body. Through the nerve system we perceive
the world, adapt to stress, coordinate all body parts and
functions, express emotion and create our conscious reality.
Your body is always replacing itself with new cells. Studies
show that we replace 98% of all our cells in less than one
year.
Your
body replaces your stomach lining every 5 days, your skin
every 4 weeks and your liver every 6 weeks. As long as your
body can see itself as healthy and vital, it creates new
cells that are the same or better than the old ones. Your
nerve system controls all of this!
The
Defence Posture
When your nerve system perceives a stress you naturally
respond by going into "flight or fight" posture.
Your body hunches forward and your tailbone tucks under
in response to the stress. The vertebrae lock together to
protect the spinal cord. If the Central Nerve System is
unable to adapt to the stress, it will store the tension
along the spine and accumulate over time.
This
is where Chiropractic can help. Chiropractic adjustments,
allow greater body\mind awareness. By adjusting Subluxations,
your nerve channels become open allowing greater communication
between mind and body. The body moves away from defence
towards growth.
